165th Anniversary Celebration
St. James Church celebrated its Anniversary with two wonderful services, a very successful Luncheon, much fellowship and the help and support of many.
Planning began in February with the election of Catherine Gordon and Michael Foley as co-chairs. Committees were formed, the history book updated, new carpet installed, a banner designed and completed, etc, etc. Everyone was busy and worked so well together as a parish.
The Rt. Rev. Sue Moxley, Bishop of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island led the more traditional service on Sun. July 6 and the Rev. Pam Bishop (a former rector of the Parish) preached on the actual date of consecration July 9.
Former priests, former AST students, along with parishioners, community members, politicians, etc., attended one or both of the services.
Music and dance were very important to both services.
Thanks to all who contributed to the successful celebration in any way and especially to Archdeacon Tricia Ingram for her leadership.
From the comments and follow-up discussions, a “good time was had by all” and re-enforced our belief that anything is possible with prayer and God’s help and love.
Catherine Gordon, Co-chair.
Parish Function Planning Committee Report
The Parish Function Planning Committee has had a successful ‘financial” summer to date. The Strawberry Luncheon along with the 165th Anniversary of St. James Church was a great success. The Lions’ Summer Fair Variety Show, Breakfast, and Chowder Lunch proved to be better than we could ask or imagine. Thank you to all who helped at these events.
Our Blueberry Lunch on August 17 at St. James Hall was well attended and the food was delicious.
We would like to remind everyone of our Walk of Faith on October 5. Pledge Sheets will be available early in September. We encourage people to bring food items for the local FOOD BANK. This is our community outreach. The money raised will also go to the local FOOD BANK. We will begin at 1:00pm and end at 3:00pm at the Musquodoboit Trail ways
Water will be available free of charge. Please come and enjoy a walk, run, or maybe a bike ride.

More Than We Can Ask or Imagine
…….that’s how I would describe this past summer. And I’m not talking about the weather here! This has truly been an incredible summer in our Parish. The 165th Anniversary Services at St. James, our Parish participation in the Lions’ Summer Fair, our Wednesday evening services shared with the United Church, and our regular Parish services and activities have been well received and attended. The Parish People dressed in 1800 costumes on a float in the parade received not one, but two trophies. One for the Grand Marshall’s Choice – thank you Dr. Phil Jardine, and the Best Overall float. Thanks to everyone who participated and supported our great summer services and activities. We have been truly blessed by such abundance!
……. And now, we look forward to this upcoming season. We begin this season with the stories of Moses and the Exodus – stories of sorrow and anguish of the exiled Jewish people who are led out of Egypt on a long journey to the Promised Land. This is a story that our Confirmation candidates were fascinated with. Together we watched the movie, the Ten Commandments and saw Moses separate the waters so that the Israelites crossed the Red Sea safely. Journeying together is a time for growth, for change, for renewal, for the building of community. And in our Parish Community, this season of Pentecost 2 continues to be a time of growth, a time for change, a time for renewal, a time for the building up of our Parish Community.
Would you like to be a part of this growing, vibrant Parish family? Would you like more information? How would you like to be involved? We would love to hear from you.
This is the time to re-connect with your church, to come to our Welcome Back Sunday on Sept. 14, to get involved, to journey together with God. If you are new to the community, we welcome you. If you’ve been away, we hope you will come home and find your place within our welcoming family. If you have questions, we hope to hear from you. Please call, we would love to hear from you.
And God continues to call and bless us, more than we can ask or imagine. It’s God’s power, working in all of us, blessing us, loving us, calling us as He called Moses and the Israelites to the Promised Land. God calls us, even now. God calls us to ‘even more than we can ask or imagine’ – calls us to be a part of His church family. Can you hear Him?
God’s blessings on you,
The Anglican Parish of Musquodoboit
